COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Description:
This training is for workers in outdoor areas who will be excavating soil, near an excavation, or in an excavation with natural occurring asbestos (NOA). The work is considered Class II by Cal/OSHA. Discussion will focus on engineering and personal protective equipment (PPE) controls, and exposure assessment considerations.

Course Outline:
A. Background and health effects of asbestos (if students have not had prior training)
B. Operations or tasks likely to cause airborne exposures
C. Engineering controls
-Wet method
-Keeping excavation spoils wet and covered
-PPE controls
-Exposure assessment considerations
